Iraq to set up a facility to receive and export liquefied gas

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, revealed on Wednesday that Iraq is taking steps to set up a facility to receive and export liquefied gas, an opportunity offered to US companies.
Al-Sudani’s remarks took place during a ceremony organized by the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington DC, where many agreements have been concluded between Iraqi institutions and US firms, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The Iraqi Prime Minister indicated that Baghdad signed an agreement with KBR, a US-based company operating in fields of science, technology, and engineering, to prepare a study on the gas facility that will allow Iraq to receive and export liquefied gas.
Al-Sudani explained that the Iraqi government has developed a comprehensive vision for the optimal utilization of oil and gas, noting that the sixth bidding round currently prepared will focus on the gas sector.
The Iraqi government is planning to reach self-sufficiency in gas and stop imports within three to five years, according to Al-Sudani.
The Iraqi Premier clarified that the government is launching integrated gas projects in different Iraqi governorates to utilize associated gas, construct gas-operated power plants, and establish petrochemical industries.
