Iraq vs Oman to kick off 25th Gulf Cup

Basra (IraqiNews.com) – The opening match of the 2023 Arab Gulf Cup will feature Iraq and Oman today in Basra, Iraq. The football match will take place at the Basra International Stadium at 5:45 pm.

The hosts recently defeated Kuwait 1-0 in a pregame friendly in December. Ali Ayiyah’s goal in the ninth minute proved to be the deciding factor.

In contrast, Oman also defeated Syria by the same margin in December. After their opponents were reduced to 10 men with five minutes remaining, Khaled Al Breiki scored the game-winning goal.

Both teams will now concentrate on the 25th Gulf Cup, where they were placed in Group A with Yemen and Saudi Arabia. The tournament is being held in Iraq for the first time since 1979.
