Iraq wins King’s Cup in Thailand
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraq’s football team beat its Thai counterpart 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 tie in the final match of the 49th Kings Cup in Thailand.
The first goal in the game was scored by Iraq’s Ayman Hussein in the 6th minute, before Thailand’s team equalized in the 37th minute through a goal scored by Nicholas Mickelson.
The Indian team took the lead again in the 65t minute after Iraqi player Amjad Attwan scored Iraq’s second goal before the Thai team tied the match in the 82nd minute with Bordin Phala’s header at the far post.
The Iraqi team qualified for the final after beating its Indian counterpart 5-4 last Thursday at the 700th Anniversary Stadium in the Thai city of Chiang Mai.
The teams that participated in the 2023 King’s Cup, which is an international football tournament hosted annually in Thailand, were Iraq, India, Lebanon, and the host country, Thailand.
Since its inception in 1968, the tournament has consistently showcased top-notch football talent from around the world.
