Iraqi Airways to operate flights to 4 new destinations

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The successive arrival of new modern planes as part of a deal between Iraqi Airways and Boeing will allow the national carrier of Iraq to reach new destinations.
Iraqi Airways indicated that there is a contract signed with Boeing to purchase 26 planes, including 10 787 Dreamliners, noting that it will operate flights to four new destinations, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
The Director General of Iraqi Airways, Manaf Abdel-Monem, told INA that the successive arrival of the new planes during the coming five years will be accompanied by the operation of flights to new destinations to cover the world.
Abdel-Monem explained that the company plans to operate flights to Oman, Indonesia, Malaysia and China.
Iraqi Airways celebrated last month the delivery of the airline’s first Boeing 787 Dreamliner with a special event in Baghdad to welcome the flag carrier’s first new-technology widebody aircraft in many years, Business Traveller News reported.
With this delivery, Iraqi Airways received the first of 10 planes ordered from the aircraft industry company to profitably develop its network and connect Iraq to more international destinations.
Additional Dreamliners are expected to arrive in Iraq in the coming months, according to a statement issued by the US embassy in Baghdad.
Iraqi Airways currently serves more than 50 destinations from Baghdad and is expanding and renewing its fleet to support the anticipated increase in international business and leisure travel to and from the country, according to Business Traveller News.
Iraq’s national carrier is working on developing its fleet because, according to reports, air traffic in the Middle East is witnessing a more than 40 percent increase compared to 2022.
