Ruler of Sharjah, Iraqi Ambassador attend Hamid Jafar’s rare Qur’an Collection exhibition
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Mudaffar Mustafa Al-Jubouri, attended on Monday the inauguration of the exhibition “Sacred Words, Timeless Calligraphy: Highlights of Exceptional Calligraphy from the Hamid Jafar Qur’an Collection” in Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization, in Sharjah, UAE, according to a press statement issued by the Iraqi embassy in UAE.
The exhibition was inaugurated by the Ruler of Sharjah and member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi.
The exhibition has a collection of rare Qur’anic manuscripts including nearly 50 original pieces of Qur’anic manuscripts, a painting and a carpet, all dating back to 14 centuries.
Hamid Jafar, Founder and Chairman of Crescent Group, has been collecting the Qu’ran manuscripts the past 40 years.
“I am proud and honored to be exhibiting this selection from my collection for the first time ever,” Jafar said, according to The National.
The pieces highlight the impact of the Islamic civilization as a unifying force and a source of inspiration for different cultures from the Near East to China, Southeast Asia, and to Spain and Morocco.
The exhibition held in cooperation with the Crescent Group which provided these rich collections to celebrate its 50th anniversary expresses the efforts of the Sharjah Museums Authority to raise community awareness of the history of Arabic calligraphy and its role in enriching arts.
The exhibition includes educational activities that enhance the role of museums as educational spaces. These educational activities include a series of family workshops that will continue throughout the duration of the exhibition which lasts until March 19, 2023.
The inauguration of the exhibition was attended by chairman of Sharjah’s Department of Seaports & Customs and the Hamriyah Free Zone in Sharjah, Sheikh Khaled bin Abdullah al-Qasimi, Minister of Health and Prevention, Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Owais, the Cultural Adviser to the President of the UAE, Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, founder and chairman of Sharjah’s Crescent Group of Companies, Hamid Jafar, Director of Sharjah Museums Authority, Manal Ataya, senior officials, heads of government departments and representatives of diplomatic missions to the country.
