Iraqi, Azerbaijani FMs discuss launching direct flights
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, discussed on Sunday the need to launch direct flights between Baghdad and Baku with the Azerbaijani Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technology, Rashad Nabiyev, according to a statement issued by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry.
The meeting addressed the bilateral ties between the two countries in the fields of transport and civil aviation, as well as ways to promote bilateral cooperation.
Hussein called on Azerbaijani businessmen and companies to visit Iraq and encourage investment, indicating the importance of the Development Road, which will link the Al-Faw Grand Port in southern Iraq with Iraq’s northern neighbor, Turkey.
The Iraqi Foreign Minister explained that the Development Road represents a great opportunity for Azerbaijan to reach the Arabian Gulf region through Iraq, especially since Iraq has a railway agreement with Iran through the southern Iraqi city of Basra.
The two sides stressed the importance of inaugurating direct flights between Baghdad and Baku and between Erbil and Baku as soon as possible, in addition to granting entry visas to Iraqi citizens wishing to visit Azerbaijan.
Nabiyev elaborated that his government is working effectively to create opportunities and encourage investments.
