Iraqi diplomats in Sudan evacuated in qualitative operation
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Saturday that Iraqi diplomats in the embassy in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, have been evacuated, according to a statement cited by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
The spokesperson of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, Ahmed Al-Sahaf, mentioned in a statement that the diplomatic staff in Sudan was successfully evacuated from the embassy in Khartoum in a qualitative operation.
Violent clashes are ongoing for about a week between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in separate areas in Sudan, most of which are concentrated in the capital, Khartoum.
The Sudanese army announced on Saturday the start of the evacuation of foreign missions wishing to leave Sudan, in the coming hours, due to the deteriorating security situation following the armed clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces.
The Sudanese army mentioned in a statement that the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, has been in contact with heads of several countries regarding facilitating and ensuring the evacuation of their nationals and diplomatic missions from Sudan.
The Iraqi Foreign Ministry announced earlier that it is coordinating with countries to evacuate Iraqi nationals from Sudan.
