Iraqi Electricity Minister meets with Saudi Energy Minister
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, met on Wednesday with the Saudi Minister of Energy, Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud, to discuss the developments in the electrical interconnection project between the two countries, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
The electrical interconnection project reflects the continuous cooperation between Iraq and Saudi Arabia, in a manner achieving the aspirations of the leaderships of the two countries and their people, SPA mentioned.
This project will support the reliability of electrical networks in both countries, reduce costs, enhance the use of renewable energy, and attract optimal investments related to electricity generation projects.
The two ministers discussed opportunities for cooperation between both countries in the field of renewable energy, and to benefit from the capabilities and experience of ACWA Power in this important field, and its contributions to the development of future projects in Iraq.
The meeting addressed Saudi Arabia’s pioneering experience in the field of smart meters, possible ways to transfer this technology to Iraq, and opportunities for Saudi and Iraqi companies to participate as contractors and manufacturers in developing smart meters.
The Saudi minister reviewed the financial and regulatory reforms the electricity sector in Saudi Arabia witnessed during the past three years, and the possibility of exchanging experiences between the two countries in this field.
