Iraqi Electricity Ministry launches new 2000 megawatt power transmission line
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announced Thursday the launch of a new electrical power transmission line with capacity up to 2000 megawatts in preparation for the summer.
A press statement issued by the ministry explained that its higher management and working staff are working on fulfilling its obligations to achieve the desired vision, and provide the required services it seeks to turn into reality for the people of the country.
The ministry’s statement stated that the staff of the General Company of Electricity Transmission of the Southern Region managed to get the new transmission line to work.
The capacity of the double-circuit high-voltage electrical power transmission line (Rumaila – Khor al-Zubair) is 400 kilovolts, and is the first line of its kind to be built in the southern region with a length of 70 kilometers (43.4 miles). The line’s transmission capacity goes up to 2000 megawatts in Basra Governorate.
The statement also explained that the project, supervised directly by the director of the General Company of Electricity Transmission of the Southern Region Ziyad Ali Fadel, includes building 171 high-voltage transmission towers with special technical specifications.
The height of some of these transmission towers reach 85 meters, and were designed in different dimensions to cross intersections in areas of Rumaila and Khor al-Zubair, 132 kilovolts transmission lines, distribution feeders, main streets and oil fields.
The statement also noted that final connection works and necessary inspections have been completed. The transmission line will contribute to linking Rumaila power plant to the national electrical infrastructure, and will stabilize the electrical system in the southern region in particular and generally in Iraq.
