 Iraqi field kitchens for earthquake victims in Syria

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi volunteers arrived in the Syrian city of Jableh, and set up field kitchens to provide 10 thousand meals per day for 10 days, according to Chargé d’Affaires of the Iraqi Embassy in Syria, Yassin Sharif Al-Hujaimi.

Al-Hujaimi elaborated that a food aid convoy coming from the Iraqi city of Karbala arrived in the city of Latakia in western Syria. The convoy includes about 80 trucks loaded with relief materials for those affected by the earthquake.

Al-Hujaimi explained that medicines needed by people suffering from chronic diseases were included in the relief materials sent to Latakia, in addition to a truck loaded with wheelchairs for handicapped, as well as quantities of infant formula and diapers.

A massive earthquake measuring 7.8 degrees on the Richter scale struck southern Turkey and northern Syria on February 6. The aftershocks of the earthquake reached other countries in the region, and were felt by residents in Lebanon and Iraq.

The earthquake in Turkey and Syria caused severe damage to thousands of buildings, including schools, health care facilities and other public infrastructure such as roads, airports, ports, gas stations and power networks, and hundreds of aftershocks were recorded.

Since the devastating earthquake, thousands of aftershocks have occurred in Turkey and Syria, while Egypt and Iraq witnessed several aftershocks as well.
