Iraqi FM confirms no conditions imposed to normalize ties with Israel

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, denied that conditions were imposed on the Iraqi delegation, which recently visited Washington, to normalize ties with Israel, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
Hussein, in a press conference, confirmed that this issue is untrue, and added that no conditions were imposed on the Iraqi delegation regarding the exchange rate of the U.S. dollar in Iraq, INA mentioned.
The Iraqi Foreign Minister illustrated that the recent visit of the Iraqi delegation to Washington was related to various fields in the economic sector.
“The monetary policy was part of the agenda of the Iraqi delegation’s visit to Washington,” Hussein stated.
Hussein stressed in his statements that the Iraqi currency is strong, and that the issue of the U.S. dollar exchange rate is about to be resolved.
Hussein indicated that Iraq’s foreign exchange reserves exceeded 100 billion USD, and that the exchange rate will be stable soon.
Hussein added that the electronic platform launched by the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) will stop smuggling, noting that the exchange rate of the U.S. dollar began to decline.
The Iraqi Foreign Minister arrived in Washington on February 8, heading a high-level government delegation including senior officials from the financial and banking sectors.
A previous report issued by INA mentioned that Hussein would discuss with the U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, support for Iraq’s monetary policy and the exchange of financial and banking support between the two countries, in order to enhance the Iraqi government’s vision regarding the exchange rate of the U.S. dollar.
