Iraqi FM discusses reopening Belgian embassy in Baghdad
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, discussed reopening the Belgian embassy in Baghdad with the Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hadja Lahbib, during a meeting on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum held in the Swiss city of Davos, according to a press statement issued by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry.
The statement mentioned that both sides talked about the bilateral relations between the two countries in addition to regional and international issues of common interest.
Hussein stressed the importance of reopening the Belgian embassy in Baghdad and bringing in investments and representatives of Belgian companies to be a starting point for rebuilding the infrastructure and activating economic relations, through the participation of Belgian companies in all sectors, the statement explained.
The two officials also discussed ways to find a solution to the families of ISIS militants, and how to return them to their countries, the statement elaborated.
Lahbib emphasized her country’s support for the Iraqi government, and appreciated Iraq’s role in mediating between neighboring countries, and its cooperation within the international coalition to fight ISIS, the statement clarified.
Lahbib also stressed that her country is looking forward to a new relationship between the two countries in terms of immigration and security, the statement added.
