Iraqi footballer receives two-year ban for attacking referee
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi midfielder Ibrahim Bayesh who plays for Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya has been stopped for two years for assaulting a referee after being put out during a match last Sunday, The Iraq Football Association (IFA) mentioned.
Bayash’s team lost 3-2 to Al-Kahraba after a goal scored in the last moments to descend to the second place in the league.
A statement issued by the IFA on Wednesday explained that the Iraqi player made fun of the referee after he received a red card and ran towards the referee trying to assault him.
“He threatened and insulted the referee,” the IFA stated.
Additionally, member of the administrative board of Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, Hammadi Ahmed, has been suspended for two years after he pushed the referee and used offensive language with the refereeing staff, the IFA added.
Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya will have to play three home matches without fans and were ordered to pay a fine of 10 million Iraqi dinars (approximately 7,640 USD) after their fans rioted after the game, Reuters reported.
The club will also have to pay for repairs to the Al-Shaab Stadium after it was damaged during the riot, Reuters added.
