Iraqi government to review amended items in the general budget
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, said that the government will review the items that have been amended in the new budget to make sure it matches the vision of the government, according to a statement cited by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
Al-Sudani’s statement took place hours after the Iraqi Parliament approved the proposed federal budget law for Iraq for fiscal years 2023, 2024, and 2025, following proceedings that began last Thursday.
The Iraqi Parliament approved early Monday the three-year budget where 198.9 trillion Iraqi dinars ($153 billion) were allocated for 2023, with a deficit of 64.36 trillion Iraqi dinars ($49.14 billion).
The Iraqi Prime Minister said that the budget prioritized the basic requirements of the Iraqis and tries to meet their expectations in terms of services, construction, and infrastructure projects.
Al-Sudani indicated that the vision of the government focuses on reducing operational spending, developing non-oil revenues, and supporting the private sector.
The Prime Minister added that the government will review the items that have been amended in the budget and study how these amendments match the government’s vision and objectives.
