Iraqi intelligence arrests 5 terrorists
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced on Thursday that five terrorists in Salah Al-Din governorate and Baghdad were arrested, according to a statement issued by the Iraqi Federal Intelligence and Investigations Agency (FIIA).
The statement explained that the terrorists were providing logistical support to terrorist elements.
The FIIA officers, during separate operations in Baghdad and Salah Al-Din, managed to arrest five terrorists in accordance with the provisions of the Terrorism Act, the statement clarified.
In addition to providing logistical support to terrorist elements, the arrested terrorists were also providing information about the movements of security forces, the statement elaborated.
The statement added that security operations to arrest the suspects were carried out according to intelligence information and after arrest warrants were issued by the concerned authorities.
The FIIA also indicated that the confessions of the terrorists were recorded, and legal measures were taken against them.
The FIIA announced last week it arrested 10 terrorists including two used to work in the so-called battalion of suicide bombers and were responsible for preparing explosive belts.
The FIIA added that the rest of the 10 terrorists set up fake security checkpoints and planted improvised explosive devices (IEDs) targeting security forces and civilians.
The Iraqi authorities announced in August it launched the fifth phase of Operation Solid Will to pursue remnants of ISIS terrorist groups in the buffer zone with Kurdistan region.
The Solid Will is a series of military operations launched by the Iraqi forces late last year with the aim of pursuing the remaining terrorists of ISIS.
In December 2017, Iraq announced it eliminated ISIS terrorists and imposed full control over all Iraqi territories, including the border with Syria, but some hiding ISIS terrorists are still active in some areas of the country.
