Iraqi, Italian PMs discuss regional and international developments
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, discussed on Monday the bilateral ties between Iraq and Italy, as well as regional and international developments following the Israeli aggression on Gaza, in a phone call with the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni.
Al-Sudani elaborated that the region is going through a dangerous situation because of the Israel-Hamas conflict, indicating that the Hamas attack on October 7 is the result of years of injustice, killing, a lack of respect for international conventions, and depriving the Palestinian people of their most basic rights to live in safety, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The Iraqi Prime Minister noted the need for quick action to be taken by the international community and the major powers to prevent the expansion of the conflict that affects energy supplies.
Al-Sudani stressed the need to open safe corridors to deliver humanitarian and medical aid to more than two million Palestinians besieged in Gaza.
Meloni expressed Italy’s concern about the events in Gaza, revealing that her government is interested in attempts to reduce the escalation of the conflict.
The Italian Prime Minister commended the efforts of the Iraqi security services in maintaining security and stability, noting the strategic partnership between Iraq and Italy.
Al-Sudani welcomed Meloni’s invitation to visit the Italian capital, Rome, promising to pay a visit to Italy as soon as possible.
