Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Before leaving for the United States of America on Saturday, the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, gave a press statement in which he emphasized that the timing of this visit comes at a critical moment for ties with the US.

Al-Sudani stated that his visit to the United States coincides with a tense situation in the region as Israel is committing atrocities against innocent people in Palestine and worries about the conflict’s potential to grow worse, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

According to the Iraqi Prime Minister, the visit aims to promote ties with the United States to a new level by enacting the Strategic Framework Agreement’s provisions. This aligns with the government’s agenda, which prioritizes significant areas such as financial and economic reforms as well as collaborations with other countries.

Al-Sudani emphasized that his meeting with the US President, Joe Biden, will address the escalation in the region and the shared responsibility to defuse the situation and keep the conflict from spreading.

In order to establish a timeline for concluding the international coalition’s mission and transitioning to bilateral ties with its member countries, the meeting also assesses the work of the Higher Military Committee (HMC) between Iraq and the international coalition.

The Iraqi Prime Minister confirmed that his visit to the US includes meetings with the US Secretaries of State, Defense, and Treasury, as well as the National Security Advisor and senior officials in oil companies.

The visit will also witness the first meeting of the joint Higher Coordination Committee (HCC) to activate the strategic framework agreement in the areas of energy, banking and financial cooperation, transportation, combating corruption, education, culture, and recovering Iraqi funds.
