Iraqi PM attends signing ceremony for 3 contracts with Siemens

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, received on Tuesday the German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, and her accompanying delegation, where they discussed ways to strengthen the bilateral relations and partnerships in various sectors, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s press office.
Al-Sudani expressed Iraq’s readiness for all forms of partnerships, and welcomed the contribution of German companies in building the infrastructure in Iraq, the statement mentioned.
Baerbock expressed the German government’s willingness to resume the work of the Iraqi-German joint committee. She also expressed Germany’s support for the Iraqi government’s endeavors to implement administrative and economic reforms, the statement explained.
Under the auspices of the Prime Minister, a signing ceremony was held with the German company, Siemens Energy, to sign the first set of project contracts included in the memorandum of understanding, the statement illustrated.
The memorandum of understanding contains comprehensive rehabilitation and service works for Kirkuk, Al-Rasheed, and Al-Sadr gas-fired power plants, the statement clarified.
These contracts cover the maintenance service of the power plants for five years, with a production capacity of up to 1400 megawatts, which helps sustain work and stabilize energy production and distribution, the statement revealed.
The German government will follow up on the work of Siemens in Iraq for the first time to ensure full implementation by the company and compliance with the terms of the contracts, the statement elaborated.
The signing of the three contracts demonstrated the Ministry of Electricity’s commitment to the memorandum of understanding signed with Siemens in Berlin under the auspices of the Prime Minister last January, according to the statement.
With these three contracts, the Iraqi government received a discount of around 30 percent, the statement added.
