 Iraqi PM calls on international community to solve Al-Hol camp issue

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, called on the international community to carry out its duties towards solving the problem of the displaced in the Al-Hol refugee camp.

Al-Sudani chaired a meeting on Saturday attended by the Minister of Migration and Displaced, Minister of Interior, the National Security Adviser, Head of the Iraqi National Security Service, the Deputy Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, and representatives of UNICEF, International Organization for Migration, the UNHCR and the UNDP, according to Alsumaria News.

Al-Sudani highlighted the importance of resettling the displaced and resolving the issue of Al-Hol refugee camp, Alsumaria News reported.

Al-Sudani stressed the importance of implementing rehabilitation and integration programs for the displaced in preparation for their return to their areas of origin, according to a press statement issued by the Prime Minister’s press office.

The statement indicated that the meeting addressed the Iraqi efforts to deal with this issue positively as well as Iraq’s eagerness to find final solutions to the issue of the displaced.  

According to the United Nations, more than 55 thousand people live in Al-Hol refugee camp located less than 10 kilometers away from the Iraqi borders.

In addition to foreign families of militants, estimated at about 10 thousand people, the camp also shelters families of displaced Syrians and Iraqis, some of them are still in contact with ISIS.
