Iraqi PM calls on Turkey to increase water releases from the Euphrates River
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, called on Turkey to increase water releases from the Euphrates River.
Al-Sudani’s remarks took place during his meeting with the Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan, and his accompanying delegation, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The meeting addressed bilateral relations between the two countries, ways to promote mutual cooperation at various levels, economic partnerships, and joint efforts to combat terrorism.
The Iraqi Prime Minister explained that promising opportunities for more economic and trade cooperation are available, indicating that the Development Road project is the best example of the available opportunities.
Al-Sudani illustrated that the Development Road project represents one of the most important economic corridors in the region and the world, where it involves great economic opportunities.
The Iraqi Premier noted that the Iraqi government prioritizes the security and stability of the country, clarifying that Iraq will not allow any party or organization to compromise security or use Iraqi lands to attack neighboring countries.
Al-Sudani valued the recent Turkish initiative to increase the water releases of the Tigris River, calling on the Turkish side to increase the water releases of the Euphrates River as well.
