Iraqi PM, German Chancellor discuss promoting bilateral ties
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, confirmed on Saturday Iraq’s eagerness to develop relations with Germany.
Al-Sudani’s remarks took place during a meeting with the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, on the sidelines of their participation in the Munich Security Conference (MSC) 2024 held in Germany, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The meeting addressed the understandings that were put into practice based on prior mutual meetings and visits, which clearly improved relations between Iraq and Germany, as well as efforts to deepen bilateral relations between the two countries in different sectors in line with the joint action plan approved in Berlin in 2023.
The Iraqi Prime Minister indicated Iraq’s eagerness to develop relations with Germany, especially in the energy sector, in addition to other economic and industrial fields.
Al-Sudani also called on the international community to put an end to the conflict that is still raging in Gaza, as it is affecting both regional and global security and impeding energy supplies and navigation.
Scholz commended Iraq for its eagerness to cultivate ties with his nation in a number of areas and to broaden the scope of their cooperative efforts.
The German leader emphasized that Germany is working hard to end the conflict in Gaza and provide humanitarian relief to the Palestinians as soon as possible, while also recognizing Iraq’s critical role in bringing about peace in the region.
