Iraqi PM, Jordanian King discuss Gaza’s developments in Cairo

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, met on Saturday with the Jordanian King, Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on the sidelines of their participation in the Cairo Summit for Peace, to discuss the developments in the Gaza Strip.
The meeting addressed the Israeli aggression against the civilians in Gaza, the tragic conditions as civilians are being targeted in hospitals, and the shortage of medical and humanitarian supplies, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The Iraqi Prime Minister emphasized the need to unify efforts to stop the Israeli aggression, in accordance with the Iraqi initiative, alleviate the suffering of the Palestinians, and provide them with the necessary aid through a special fund to protect their rights.
In his speech at the summit, the Iraqi leader explained that the conflict in Palestine will affect international security, threaten energy supplies to global markets, increase economic crises, and may create deeper conflicts.
“Iraq strongly rejects the resettlement plan of the Palestinians and refuses the creation of refugee camps for Palestinians,” Al-Sudani elaborated.
After Hamas militants launched an unprecedented surprise attack on Israel on October 7, hundreds of people were killed and thousands more were injured, putting the region on the brink of a full-scale conflict.
Israel responded by launching a bombing campaign and placing the neighboring Gaza Strip under a complete lockdown.
Israeli authorities report that at least 1,400 people were killed and 4,629 others were injured in the attack carried out by Hamas in Israel.
According to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, more than 4,650 people were killed, including 1,756 children and 967 women, and 14,245 others were injured in the Gaza Strip.
