Iraqi PM, Kurdistan President discuss oil and gas laws
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, discussed on Saturday national issues including oil and gas laws with the President of Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, according to a press statement issued by the Prime Minister’s press office.
The statement elaborated that Al-Sudani received Barzani and his accompanying delegation in Baghdad where they talked about important national issues, and ways to enhance coordination and cooperation between the federal government in Baghdad and the regional government in Erbil.
The meeting between Al-Sudani and Barzani addressed the laws related to oil and gas, the federal budget law, as well as the efforts made to secure the borders, the statement explained.
The Prime Minister’s press office revealed earlier this month that Al-Sudani, discussed ways to integrate the work of the federal and regional governments with the Prime Minister of Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani.
Both prime ministers also talked about Kurdistan government’s share in the 2023 federal budget, oil and gas issue, and the federal rights of the Peshmerga forces.
Tensions between Erbil and Baghdad escalated since the Iraqi Federal Supreme Court issued a ruling last February considering the legal foundations of oil and gas sector in Kurdistan region unconstitutional, after talks with the region’s government failed.
