Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, met on Wednesday with representatives of Siemens and General Electric (GE) to review the developments related to maintaining and raising the efficiency of power plants in Iraq, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.

The meeting was held during the Prime Minister’s visit to the Al-Quds power plant in northeastern Baghdad to inaugurate new high-voltage facilities.

The meeting addressed the progress of the technical and executive steps related to contracts concluded recently, according to INA.

Al-Sudani emphasized that the government prioritized the electricity issue, explaining that dealing with the problem requires hard work because Iraqi citizens are waiting for solutions that end the ongoing electricity crisis.

The Iraqi Prime Minister clarified that the government will continue its plans to take advantage of associated gas in the energy sector, to gradually reduce its reliance on imported gas, and to prevent the harmful effects caused by gas flaring.

Al-Sudani also inaugurated the Al-Rasheed gas station, a 250 megawatt gas-fired power project developed in multiple phases in southern Baghdad to help meet the capital’s growing energy needs.
