Iraqi PM participates in Cairo Summit for Peace
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, delivered Iraq’s speech on Saturday during his participation in the Cairo Summit for Peace held in the Egyptian capital.
Al-Sudani said that the Palestinian people are facing a genocide where civilians are being targeted by Israeli air strikes at homes, churches and hospitals, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
“The Al-Mamdani Hospital massacre unveiled the Israelis’ intentions, which crossed all red lines,” Al-Sudani said.
“Palestine is an example of the failure of the world order to foster the values of humanity, justice and freedom it calls for,” the Iraqi Prime Minister stated. “It is time to put an end to this hateful occupation and stop the suffering of the Palestinian people,” he added.
The Iraqi leader explained that the conflict in Palestine will affect international security, threaten energy supplies to global markets, increase economic crises, and may create deeper conflicts.
“Iraq strongly rejects the resettlement plan of the Palestinians and refuses the creation of refugee camps for Palestinians,” the Iraqi leader elaborated.
“We highlight the importance of reaching an immediate ceasefire, opening border crossings to allow humanitarian aid to be delivered to the people in Gaza, and ensuring the safe exchange of captives.
“Efforts should be exerted to lift the blockade on the Gaza Strip,” Al-Sudani said, calling for the establishment of a fund to support the reconstruction efforts in Gaza.
Al-Sudani received an invitation from the Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to participate in the summit, where several leaders attended.
The Israeli occupying forces are preparing for a ground invasion of the Gaza Strip in an attempt to eliminate Hamas militants who attacked Israeli cities on October 7, killing more than a thousand Israelis.
