Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, received an invitation from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to visit Turkey, according to a press statement issued by the Prime Minister’s press office.

The statement explained that Al-Sudani received last week the Turkish Ambassador to Iraq, Ali Riza Guney, where he handed Al-Sudani a letter that included an official invitation from Erdogan to visit Turkey.

In his letter to Al-Sudani, Erdogan expressed his desire to resume the meetings of the Iraqi-Turkish Strategic Cooperation Council, the statement mentioned.

Al-Sudani promised to pay a visit to Turkey as soon as possible, the statement added.

The statement also clarified that the meeting addressed ways to develop the bilateral economic relations between Iraq and Turkey, in addition to the dry canal project, and the formation of a joint committee to coordinate the stages of the project.

The dry canal and rail network is a project that would link the Al-Faw Grand Port, which is under construction in southern Iraq, with Turkish ports and Central Asia, according to Iraqi officials.

Both Al-Sudani and Guney also discussed procedures to facilitate the issuance of entry visas to Turkish investors and technicians working in Iraq, the statement added.
