 Iraqi PM reveals objectives of his visit to Turkey

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, revealed the objectives of his upcoming visit to Turkey, scheduled on Tuesday, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.

Al-Sudani mentioned that the visit comes at a very important time for the region, which seeks to enhance cooperation and economic integration to boost economic development, INA mentioned.

Al-Sudani indicated that the talks he will hold with the Turkish side will focus on strengthening the Iraqi-Turkish relations in all fields, especially the economic field.

The Iraqi Prime Minister pointed out that Iraq is looking forward to implementing ambitious economic projects in the energy and transport sectors, and transforming Iraq into a center for world trade between Asia and Europe, through the Al-Faw Grand Port project.

Al-Sudani explained that the Al-Faw Grand Port project will include the dry canal corridor, represented by a highway and a railway, passing through Diwaniyah, Najaf, Karbala, Baghdad and Mosul, and extending to the Turkish border, allowing access to the Turkish port of Mersin and Europe through the Turkish city of Istanbul.

“Border security and cooperation between Iraq and Turkey in terms of intelligence and information exchange will be addressed during the visit,” Al-Sudani said.

In regards to the water issue with Turkey, Al-Sudani confirmed that he will discuss the water problem in Ankara, indicating that the Turkish side is seeking to increase the water flowing from behind the dams to Iraq.

Al-Sudani also pointed out that his visit will ensure that Iraq obtains its needs of water, which is a lifeline for development and agricultural expansion.
