Iraqi PM reviews electrical interconnection project across Jordan in Cairo

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, discussed several issues of common concern with the Egyptian Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, during his visit to the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on Sunday.
Madbouly confirmed that Egypt and Iraq are determined to expand joint cooperation and increase the trade exchange, stressing that the two countries have enormous capabilities and able to increase the trade exchange.
Al-Sudani addressed the tripartite cooperation with Jordan, and the outcomes of the tripartite summit, especially with regard to the electrical interconnection project, where the first phase with Jordan will be completed next June.
“We already have an electrical connection with Jordan with a capacity of about 550 megawatts, and we are currently working to enhance the line to reach larger capacities and to deliver electricity to Iraq as well. There is a possibility to increase the capacity of the line with Jordan to two or three gigawatts,” Madbouly said.
Madbouly explained that discussions are ongoing to establish a logistical area on the border between Iraq and Jordan to contribute to the provision of goods and products, noting that Egypt can benefit from this project by providing Egyptian products to the Iraqi market.
Madbouly valued the bilateral relations between Iraq, Egypt and Jordan describing it as a comprehensive strategic tripartite cooperation to maximize the benefits for everyone.
Regarding the tripartite cooperation mechanism between Egypt, Iraq and Jordan, Madbouly expressed his aspiration that the joint projects that were agreed upon would enter into force as soon as possible.
