Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani’s major objective at the 78th United Nations General Assembly this week is to increase investment from Europe and the US while stepping up cooperation with Arab countries to support the construction of a natural gas production infrastructure.

Experts see that the step will make Iraq gradually less reliant on Iran, which now provides Iraq with roughly 35 to 40 percent of its energy requirements, according to The New York Times.

Al-Sudani wants to convince the world that he is the one who can end his country’s long-standing issues with political instability and corruption and turn it into a dependable partner for the region.

The Iraqi Prime Minister said that he understands the energy problem in Iraq and aims to make Iraq more self-sufficient in the field of energy, and that it is not possible to rely on imported gas forever.

Al-Sudani also explained that he is trying to start addressing the frustration the Iraqi youth feel in terms of finding government jobs.
