Iraqi Presidency to summon Turkish Ambassador over airstrikes

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Presidency confirmed on Tuesday that the Turkish Ambassador to Iraq will be summoned to hand him a protest letter to be delivered to the Turkish Presidency.
The step comes a day after an airstrike targeted a military airport in Arbat, southeast of the city of Sulaymaniyah in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
Local authorities in Iraqi Kurdistan reported that three members of the counter-terrorism force were killed and three Peshmerga soldiers were injured.
The Iraqi Presidency mentioned in a statement that the launch of successive military operations against cities, civilians, and military personnel is prohibited under international law and is against the principles of good neighborliness.
“It is categorically rejected by Iraq that such actions and aggressions in using drones to attack Iraqis are used to confront Iraq’s openness and goodwill. It is a matter that the Iraqi government cannot ignore,” the statement illustrated.
The statement explained that part of the Iraqi efforts is to engage the international community in this matter.
The Iraqi Presidency added that it will exert efforts to stop such attacks, expressing that dialogue is the most effective means to promote security and that it will not tolerate anyone who threatens the security, sovereignty, or stability of Iraq.
