Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi President, Abdul Latif Rashid, called for the adoption of laws that protect journalists and media professionals, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.

“We congratulate journalists in Iraq and the world on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day,” Rashid said in a statement.

The Iraqi president emphasized the need to provide an appropriate environment for free and responsible media to reach their goals represented in solving the problems societies suffer from.

Rashid considered that granting responsible freedom to journalists to present their opinions and ideas and to perform their role without restrictions expresses commitment to the foundations of democracy.

The Iraqi president expressed his wishes to all media professionals to continue their national approach in enhancing the role of media and strengthening ties and cohesion among the Iraqi people.

May 3, 2023, marks the 30th anniversary of the UN General Assembly’s decision proclaiming an international day for press freedom.
