 Iraqi President, Kurdistan’s PM stress the need to approve new budget

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi President, Abdul Latif Rashid, met on Tuesday with the Prime Minister of Kurdistan region, Masrour Barzani, where they emphasized the importance of accelerating the approval of the country’s budget, according to a statement issued by the Iraqi Presidency.

Rashid praised the agreement with Barzani to resume oil exports from the Kurdistan region, the statement mentioned.

The Iraqi President praised the efforts of the negotiating teams in the federal government and the regional government, and considered the agreement a step forward to strengthen the relations between Baghdad and Erbil, the statement explained.

The statement elaborated that both sides emphasized the need to expedite the approval of the budget law as it will contribute to the rehabilitation of the country’s infrastructure, the provision of necessary services, and the construction of strategic projects.

Rashid and Barzani discussed political, security and economic issues in Iraq, and emphasized the need to support the government in implementing its program to meet the needs of citizens, the statement clarified.

The Iraqi government announced on March 16 it handed over the draft financial budget law for a period of three years to the Iraqi Parliament.

During its session on March 13, the Iraqi government approved the draft federal budget law for the fiscal years 2023, 2024 and 2025, and referred it to the parliament.

Following the cabinet’s session on March 13, the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, stressed that the government is keen to ensure that the federal budget reflects the government’s program that the Iraqi Parliament voted on.
