Iraqi President meets with the Secretary-General of the UN in Dubai
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – On the sidelines of the United Nations Climate Summit (COP28), which was hosted in the United Arab Emirates, President of Iraq Abdul Latif Rashid and Secretary-General António Guterres met at Expo City in Dubai.
The meeting included discussions about the state of the international scene as well as Iraq’s developments in the fields of politics, security, and the environment. Iraq’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fouad Hussein, Minister of Finance, Taif Sami, Minister of Environment, Nizar Aamidi, and Ambassador of Iraq to the United Arab Emirates, Muzaffar Al-Jubouri, were present.
The President of Iraq made the point that in order for the results of earlier climate conferences to become a reality, international accords pertaining to them must be activated and put into action.
Rashid described the conditions that Iraq is facing as a result of the water crisis, including the adverse effects of dust, drought, and desertification on several facets of daily life. Furthermore, the President emphasized the critical role that the UN plays in bolstering global initiatives, enacting necessary legislation to alleviate the water crisis, and fostering collaboration in the area of transboundary water resources. in order to guarantee the riparian countries’ equitable sharing.
