Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi President, Abdul Latif Rashid, participated on Saturday in the G77 and China Leaders’ Summit held at Expo City in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
The historic Summit of Leaders of the Group of 77 and China comes within the framework of the UN’s COP28 summit.
The Iraqi President was accompanied by Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, Environment Minister Nizar Amedi, Finance Minister Taif Sami, Iraqi Ambassador to the UAE Muzaffar Al-Jubouri, and Presidential Advisor Muhammad Amin, according to a statement issued by the Iraqi Presidency.
A coalition of 135 developing nations, the Group of 77 (G77) in the UN was established to advance the economic interests of its members collectively and strengthen their ability to negotiate together in the UN.
The Geneva-based organization had 77 original members when it was first established, but it currently has 135 member countries.
Cuba took over as chairperson in 2023, replacing Pakistan.
With the announcement of the establishment of the loss and damage fund to compensate the most vulnerable nations in the face of the climate disaster, the COP28 Summit got underway in Dubai on Thursday.
The decision to operationalize the fund was officially adopted by the greatest global summit to combat climate change.
Financial promises were received from the United Arab Emirates, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Japan.
