Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi President, Abdul Latif Rashid, arrived on Sunday in the Italian capital, Rome, to participate in the World Food Forum (WFF).

Rashid is accompanied by the Iraqi Minister of Agriculture, Abbas Jabr Al-Alawi, and other Iraqi officials, according to a statement issued by the Iraqi Presidency.

The WFF is taking place from October 16–20 at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in the Italian capital.

One day earlier, the Iraqi President received the Italian Ambassador to Iraq, Maurizio Greganti, in Baghdad, where they reviewed various aspects of the relations between Iraq and Italy.

During his meeting with Greganti, Rashid talked about the strong relations between the two countries and the importance of developing these relations to serve the interests of the people in both countries.

The Iraqi President highlighted the importance of having the WFF held at the present time as the world is facing many challenges related to food security.

Rashid added that food challenges require unified efforts to improve water management and combat hunger and poverty.

The Iraqi President is expected to hold meetings with the Italian President, Sergio Mattarella; the Executive Director of the World Food Program, Cindy Lou McCain; and the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Qu Dongyu.
