Iraqi Red Crescent sends largest food and medical aid convoy to Gaza
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Red Crescent Society (IRCS) announced in a statement that it sent a huge humanitarian aid convoy to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing.
The statement explained that the largest convoy of food and medical aid has been dispatched to Gaza in cooperation with the Iraqi government and the IRCS, under the auspices of the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani.
The IRCS elaborated that the convoy carries more than 500 tons of food and medical supplies.
The convoy, consisting of many trucks, departed Iraq heading to the Terbil border crossing, which is located between Iraq and Jordan. From there, it will head to the port of Aqaba, then take a ferry to the port of Nuweiba in Egypt to finally reach the city of Rafah.
This is not the first time that the IRCS has sent humanitarian aid to the Palestinians besieged in Gaza. Last month, a convoy of 91 trucks carrying basic food supplies was sent to the Gaza Strip.
Jordan, in partnership with the World Food Program (WFO), Qatar Red Crescent, and other humanitarian organizations, managed to bring the convoy, which included donations from the Iraqi people and government, and the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada Al-Sadr, into the Gaza Strip.
In April, the Iraqi Prime Minister said that the cabinet had agreed to send ten million liters of fuel to the Gaza Strip in support of the Palestinian people.
Al-Sudani added in a statement that Iraq has also committed to receiving injured Palestinians from Gaza and treating them in both public and private hospitals.
