Iraqi security arrests 16 ISIS terrorists in different governorates
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Directorate of General Military Intelligence (DGMI) announced on Tuesday the arrest of 16 terrorists belonging to ISIS in different Iraqi governorates.
The DGMI mentioned in a statement that Iraqi security forces carried out separate operations in Baghdad, Anbar, Nineveh, and Salah Al-Din after receiving intelligence information indicating that some ISIS elements exist in areas in these governorates, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.
The statement illustrated that the suspects were working for the terrorist group ISIS as fighters and intelligence personnel, noting that they were handed over to the concerned authorities to complete investigations.
The Iraqi Security Media Cell (ISMC) announced on Monday the arrest of three terrorists and the seizure of a stockpile of ammunition in Anbar governorate in western Iraq.
Last Thursday, the Joint Operations Command announced that Air Force fighter jets carried out strikes against a hideout of ISIS terrorists in a mountainous area in Tuz Khurmatu in Salah Al-Din governorate.
In late November, the DGMI announced the elimination of ISIS members and the arrest of others in separate security operations in different Iraqi governorates.
In mid-November, the Iraqi Air Force destroyed a hideout belonging to ISIS and killed two terrorists in Salah Al-Din governorate, north of Baghdad.
Iraq announced in late 2017 the liberation of all its territories from the grip of ISIS, but the authorities are constantly launching security operations to pursue remnants of the terrorist group that carry out attacks from time to time in the country.
