Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi security forces arrested on Thursday a dangerous gang, led by a woman, involved in human trafficking and prostitution.

Iraqi media outlets revealed that the Federal Intelligence and Investigation Agency (FIIA) of the Iraqi Ministry of Interior received intelligence information indicating that the gang is exploiting women and children through human trafficking and prostitution.

The Iraqi authorities announced last week the arrest of a gang specializing in human trafficking, begging, and organ trafficking with the help of Syrian women.

For years, Iraq has recorded an increase in human trafficking crimes, where the victims are often children and tanagers from poor areas.

Experts attribute human trafficking crimes to high unemployment rates and the decline in living conditions.

Articles 6, 7, 8, and 9 of the Human Trafficking Law No. 28 of 2012 stipulate penalties starting from fines and reaching the death penalty.
