Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ministry of Transport announced on Tuesday the development of a strategic plan to rehabilitate Iraqi airports.

The Transport Ministry’s Media Director, Maytham Al-Safi, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the ministry has developed a strategic plan to rehabilitate airports.

According to Al-Safi, the Iraqi Transport Ministry also reached an agreement to create strategic plans for the development and renovation of airports with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group.

The Iraqi official indicated that the Iraqi Transport Minister, Razzaq Al-Saadawi, follows up with Baghdad International Airport management almost every day to inquire about the steps taken to offer services to travelers and to come up with immediate solutions for renovating and maintaining the airport.

Al-Safi pointed out that Iraqi Airways has resumed operations with seven airplanes that were inoperative in recent months, demonstrating the airline’s continued success, adding that an important airplane will return to service next May.

Al-Safi said that, in accordance with orders from Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, the Transport Ministry intends to complete the maintenance of ten airplanes by 2024.
