Iraqi, Turkish FMs discuss bilateral, regional issues
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The delegations of Iraq and Turkey issued a joint statement on Tuesday following bilateral talks held in the Turkish capital, Ankara.
The Iraqi Foreign Ministry said in a statement that senior security officials from both countries attended the bilateral discussions between Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.
The topics addressed during the discussions were regional and bilateral, with a focus on water, security, and counterterrorism.
The two sides agreed to continue developing relations between the two countries in different fields to ensure comprehensive institutional cooperation.
Hussein and Fidan agreed to maximize cooperation in combating terrorism to ensure the stability of both countries, highlighting the importance of preserving Iraq’s political unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
The statement confirmed that the two sides also talked about the threats posed by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), indicating that regional stability and prosperity will be possible through cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, transportation, and infrastructure development.
The two parties discussed the steps that must be taken to quickly carry out the Development Road project, which is considered a great contribution to the development of Iraq and the region.
