Iraqis organize campaigns to support 25th Gulf Cup

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Some Iraqis are organizing campaigns to support the 25th Gulf Cup championship scheduled to start on January 6, in Basra governorate, in southern Iraq.
Iraq will host the Gulf Cup for the second time after the capital, Baghdad, hosted the championship in 1979 where the Iraqi national team won the title.
As Iraqi football fans support their national team and their country, they organized, continuously for weeks, media and community campaigns to encourage the Gulf and Arab masses to attend the tournament.
A group of Iraqi bloggers, through videos posted on social media, called on the fans to come attend the tournament in its twenty-fifth edition.
The Iraqi national team won the championship title in 1979 and 1984, and is seeking to win the title for the third time.
For years, Iraq has been seeking to host the tournament that brings together the teams of Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq, Oman, Bahrain and Yemen.
The 25th version of the Arabian Gulf Cup is scheduled to be held between January 6 and January 19, 2023, in the Al-Menaa Olympic Stadium and Basra International Stadium.
The tournament will be held with the participation of eight teams divided into two groups. The first group includes Iraq, Oman, Yemen and Saudi Arabia, while the second group includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE.
The opening match will be between the national team of the hosting country, Iraq, and Oman at 6:45 p.m. local time in Basra International Stadium, and later on the same day, the national teams of Saudi Arabia and Yemen will play their match scheduled at 9:30 p.m.
