Iraq’s football team to play against Russian counterpart in Russia
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraq Football Association (IFA) revealed on Wednesday that a friendly match between the Iraqi national football team ‘Lions of Mesopotamia’ and its Russian counterpart will be held in the Russian city of Sochi on March 27.
The IFA mentioned in a statement that the Iraqi national team will play an international friendly match against its Russian counterpart in Sochi on March 27.
The statement elaborated that this match comes as part of the Iraqi national team’s preparations for the upcoming international competitions, and the match will be preceded by a training camp that will start on March 21, and will be held in the same Russian city.
This is the first friendly match for the Iraqi national team after winning the 25th Gulf Cup held in the southern Iraqi city of Basra last January.
The coaching staff of the Iraqi national team announced that the team’s Spanish coach, Jesus Casas, will return to Baghdad in the middle of March after finishing his current vacation in Madrid.
The Russian national team will play a friendly match with the Iranian national team in Tehran on March 23.
