Iraq’s Nasiriyah International Airport to be completed in 2025
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Transport Ministry’s Media Director, Maytham Al-Safi, confirmed on Monday that the ministry intends to complete the Nasiriyah International Airport project in 2025.
In a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Al-Safi explained that 20 percent of the Nasiriyah International Airport project has been completed, noting that the Minister of Transport, Razzaq Al-Saadawi, is expected to visit the project site to assess the work that is still being done.
Al-Saadawi ordered earlier to urgently overcome the obstacles hindering the completion of the Nasiriyah International Airport project.
The Iraqi government has appointed the Chinese State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) as the project’s primary contractor.
Al-Safi mentioned last month that the Iraqi Transport Ministry reached an agreement to create strategic plans for the development and renovation of airports in Iraq with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group.
The Iraqi official indicated that the Iraqi Transport Minister follows up with Baghdad International Airport management almost every day to inquire about the steps taken to offer services to travelers and to come up with immediate solutions for renovating and maintaining the airport.
Al-Safi said that, in accordance with orders from Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, the Transport Ministry intends to complete the maintenance of ten airplanes by 2024.
