Iraq’s population exceeds 43 million
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ministry of Planning revealed on Tuesday an estimation of the Iraqi population in 2023, indicating that it exceeded 43 million, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
The Planning Ministry mentioned in a statement that it is working to conduct a national census in 2024 to serve development plans by setting up a comprehensive database of the population in Iraq.
According to the statement, the government paid great attention to creating the appropriate conditions for conducting the census after the financial allocations had been provided.
The Ministry of Planning added that the estimated population of Iraq for 2023 is 43,324,000, indicating that the population in Iraq increased by 2.5 percent.
The last national census was carried out in Iraq in 1997, during the era of the late President Saddam Hussein, when the number of Iraqis at that time was 19 million.
According to estimations, the population in the Kurdistan region of Iraq was around three million people at that time.
