Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Hossein Salami, stressed on Monday the importance of developing cooperation between Iran and Iraq, especially in the defense, military and security fields, stressing that Iran is striving for a strong Iraq, according to Fars News Agency.

“Our desire for the glory of Iraq is as real as the desire for the glory of our country, and we consider Iraq an important country in terms of the geopolitics of the Islamic world,” Salami said during his meeting in Tehran with the Iraqi Minister of Defense, Thabet Al-Abbasi.

“In addition to providing advisory assistance and exchanging experiences and achievements gained from cooperation in the field of combating terrorism, the Revolutionary Guards is also ready to play an influential role in all fields, including training the Iraqi armed forces,” Salami stated.

“It is unacceptable for the Islamic nation, especially for the Iranian people, who have a lot in common with the Iraqi people, that foreign countries show their desire for political and security interference in the security system of Iraq, and attempt to divide the country,” Salami said.

Salami indicated that wherever the Americans are, there will be a state of insecurity, Fars News Agency mentioned.

“The oppressed people are the ones who pay the price for the greed of the Americans,” Salami added.

Al-Abbasi, heading a high-level delegation, arrived in Iran on Saturday after he received an invitation from his Iranian counterpart, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

The Iraqi Ministry of Defense mentioned in a statement that the delegation’s visit will last for two days.

The statement also indicated that the delegation will discuss ways to develop the bilateral relations between Iraq and Iran to serve the interests of the Iraqi army.
