Leaders of Iraq, Egypt discuss deepening bilateral ties
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi President, Abdul Latif Rashid, met on Wednesday with the Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, on the sidelines of the 31st Arab League summit held in the Algerian capital, Algeria, according to a press statement issued by the Iraqi Presidency.
The statement mentioned that both leaders discussed the most important regional and international political, security and economic developments, as well as ways to confront challenges in a way that enhances solidarity and joint Arab action.
Rashid stressed the importance of developing and expanding the historical ties between Iraq and Egypt to include several fields and to achieve the aspirations of the people of both countries, according to the statement.
Rashid addressed the sufferance Iraq faced during the war against terrorism and the crimes committed by terrorist groups against the Iraqi people, including the genocide against the Yazidis, the statement mentioned.
Rashid also talked about the measures taken by Iraq to overcome the effects of the period where terrorist groups controlled several areas in the country, the statement elaborated.
Rashid expressed his optimism about the formation of the new government which will serve the Iraqi people, the statement added.
El-Sisi indicated that Iraq is a strong and important country and has a pivotal role in the region, and praised the deep historical relations between the people of both countries.
