Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi national team suffered a crushing defeat against its Mexican counterpart (0-4) in the international friendly football match that brought them together on Wednesday evening, in the Spanish city of Girona.

The four goals were scored by Alexis Vega in the 4th minute, Funes Mori in the 48th minute, Jesus Gallardo in the 67th minute and Uriel Antuna in the 92nd minute.

This match is part of the preparations of the Iraqi national team for the 25th Arabian Gulf Cup that will take place in Basra in southern Iraq.

The match is also part of the preparations of the Mexican team for the 22nd edition of the FIFA World Cup which will be hosted by Qatar from November 20 to December 18, 2022.

Two groups will participate in the 25th Arabian Gulf Cup. The first group now includes Iraq, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Yemen, while the second group has Qatar, Bahrain, UAE and Kuwait.

Iraq Football Association (IFA) announced earlier in November it reached an agreement with the Spanish coach, Jesus Casas, to lead the training of the Iraqi national football team for the next period.

The Iraqi national football team will play a friendly match against the Ecuadorian team on November 12, and another friendly match against Costa Rica on November 17.
