National team players granted residential lands, diplomatic passports

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, honored the national football team players on Saturday by granting them residential plots of land in Baghdad, according to a press statement issued by the Prime Minister’s press office.
The statement explained that Al-Sudani received the national football team that won the 25th Gulf Cup championship, and organized a luncheon in their honor.
Al-Sudani praised the Iraqi national team’s victory in the championship, and the good level and high sportsmanship the players showed throughout the 25th Gulf Cup.
Al-Sudani said that the Council of Ministers decided to grant the national team’s players residential plots of land in Baghdad, and to give them diplomatic passports.
The Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, issued a directive on Friday granting diplomatic passports to players of the Iraqi national football team.
The Iraqi national team won the 25th Gulf Cup title after achieving a 3-2 victory over its Omani counterpart in the final match held in Basra International Stadium last Thursday.
This is the fourth time the Iraqi team is crowned with the title in its history, after an absence that lasted for 35 years.
Before winning this tournament, the Iraqi national team won the title three times in its history, in 1979 at home, and in 1984 and 1988.
