 NATO Mission in Baghdad pledges to support Iraqi security

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The NATO mission in Iraq (NMI) renewed its commitment to providing security support to Iraq, while Baghdad affirmed its desire to expand cooperation in a way that preserves Iraq’s sovereignty and security.

The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, received on Sunday the commander of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) mission in Iraq, Giovanni Iannucci, and his accompanying delegation, according to a press statement issued by the Prime Minister’s press office.

The statement mentioned that the meeting addressed the mission’s tasks within the framework of security and military cooperation with Iraq, which includes providing advice and training, developing the capabilities of the Iraqi security forces, raising the level of their performance, and enabling them to face various security challenges, particularly the fight against terrorism.

Al-Sudani stressed the importance of the cooperation with the NATO mission according to the requirements of the Iraqi government, and in a manner that preserves Iraq’s sovereignty and enhances its security and stability, the statement clarified.

Iannucci stressed that the NATO mission in Iraq continues its cooperation and coordination with different Iraqi security agencies, within the scope of its tasks and duties, to develop the security sector in Iraq, the statement added.
