Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Muhammad Al-Halbousi, confirmed on Monday that Iraq’s stance towards the Palestinian issue will not change.

Al-Halbousi’s statements took place during his meeting with the Chairman of the Palestinian National Council (PNC), Rawhi Fattouh, and his accompanying delegation, according to a statement cited by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

The meeting addressed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli bombardment, the siege laid by the occupying forces in Gaza, the humanitarian conditions, the need to open safe corridors to deliver humanitarian aid and protect civilians, as well as the importance of adopting a unified Arab stance against the Israeli violations.

Fattouh confirmed that the civilians in Gaza are facing collective punishment and possible displacement and suffer from difficult humanitarian conditions, indicating that there is a need for a unified Arab stance.

The Iraqi Parliament condemned on Sunday the Israeli aggression against people in Gaza, emphasizing the right of the Palestinians to defend their land.

Iraqi lawmakers called on the UN Security Council to take the necessary actions to prevent the killing of Palestinians by the Israeli occupying forces.
